#March Majesty - Celebrates Da Brat
As we celebrate females in the Hop Hop industry (which is no longer a fad, although there are those who are still reluctant to admit that), we look back on the career of Chicago area native & Jermaine Dupri protege Shawntae Harris. You know her by her stage name Da Brat (born April 14, 1974). Harris burst onto the scene when he signed to Jermaine Dupri's So So Def label in 1992. Then on June 28th in 1994 she released her debut studio album Funkdafied. She made history straight out of the gate when she became the first female solo act to go Platinum (the second female act in general behind Salt-N-Pepa) with the album as well as the single of the same name (click here for video). This album garnered her 3 Billboard Awards as well as a Soul Train Lady Of soul Awards. Her third also Unrestricted also went Platinum. She has an additional 3 Gold Singles to her credit.
