Deep Rootz Hip Hop trio The Sequence were the 1st EVER signed female Hip Hop group. Signed to Sugar Hill Records in 1979. The group consisted of Cheryl Cook (Cheryl The Pearl), Gwendolyn Chisolm (Blondie), and lead Singer/Rapper Angela Laverne Brown (Angie B) who would later reemerge as Angie Stone The group originated from Columbia, South Carolina, they are most noted for their debut single "Funk You Up", the first single released by a female rap group & the second single released by Sugar Hill Records.
