Happy Birthday @IAMQUEENLATIFAH Queen Latifah. Born Dana Elaine Owens March 18, 1970. Dana, who is originally From Newark, New Jersey first got her start as an original member of the Hip Hop collective known as Flavor Unit. Then in 1988 she caught the attention of Tommy Boy Records Executive Dante Ross, who then signed her to the label. In 1989 she dropped her debut studio album All Hail The Queen. It featured the singles Dance For Me, Ladies First (collaboration with Monie Love), & Come Into My House. In 1991 she released her second studio album Nature Of A Sista. This album included the singles Fly Girl & Latifah's Had It Up To Here. In 1993 Latifah would reach her peak as far as Hip Hop royalty with the release of her third album (her first on Motown Records) Black Reign.This album (which she dedicated to her older brother Lancelot, who died in a motorcycle accident) would be her most successful Rap album to date. It reached Gold Status & included the single U.N.I.T.Y., for which she earned a Grammy in '95 for Best Rap Solo Performance. In 2004 she made her first singing album The Dana Owens Album, which was Jazz oriented & all cover songs. it reached Gold Status. In 2007 she struck Gold (status) again with her second singing album Trav'lin' Light. Latifah has also made the highly successful transition from music to film (click here for Filmography) as well as TV Shows such as Living Single. She also has quite a few Awards (click here) to her credit & is currently an Executive Producer for the TV Series Scream.
