On this day in 1988, West Coast group N.W.A. dropped their classic official debut studio album Straight Outta Compton. This album reached Triple Platinum status with hardly any airplay. It peaked at #4 on Billboard's Hot 200 Albums Chart. The album features the singles Express Yourself as well as the title track. This album helped to put West Coast Gangster Rap on the map. It was mainly written by Ice Cube, MC Ren, & a few contributions from The D.O.C.
