Happy Birthday Black Thought. Born Tariq Luqmaan Trotter October 3, 1973. Trotter is the lead rapper of the Philadelphia group The Roots, which he co-founded with drummer Quest Love (Born Ahmir Khalib Thompson) in 1987. In 1994 The Roots first entered the charts with Distortion to Static, followed by Proceed & Proceed II (Featuring: Roy Ayers). In 1999 The Roots released their most successful album to date, the Platinum selling Things Fall Apart, which includes their most successful single as well (You Got Me). This song earned the group a Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group.
