#VitalFactz: Happy Birthday - Ice Cube
Happy Birthday @icecube Ice Cube. Born O'Shea Jackson June, 15, 1969. Jackson got his start as a member of the legendary Compton, California group N.W.A.. Contrary to popular opinion, Ice Cube did NOT write all of N.W.A.'s lyrics when he was a member of the group. He did however, write a lot of Eazy E's lyrics as well as Dr. Dre's. MC Ren wrote his own lyrics. Cube's lyrical contributions helped propel N.W.A.'s full length official debut album Straight Outta Compton to Triple Platinum Status. Unfortunately, due to money issues with N.W.A.'s manager Jerry Heller, Cube left the group in 1989 to pursue a solo career. He temporarily relocated to New York & hooked up with Public Enemy's production crew, the legendary Bomb Squad to work on his debut solo album. This collaboration resulted in the 1990 release of AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted. This album was certified Platinum & peaked at #19 on Billboard's Hot 200 Albums Chart. Later that year he released the Platinum selling EP Kill At Will, which features the single Jackin' For Beats. In 1991 released his highly anticipated (as we as extremely controversial) second studio album Death Certificate. This album peaked at #2 on billboard's Hot 200 Albums Chart. In the fall of 1992 he released his third studio album The Predator. This is his most successful album to date, despite the fact that it's not considered his best work. It was certified Double Platinum & peaked at #1 on Billboard's Hot 200 Albums Chart as well as the R&B Albums Chart. It features the singles Wicked & It Was A Good Day. In 1993 Ice Cube released his Platinum selling fourth album Lethal Injection. It features the single You Know How We Do It. In 1996 he teamed up with fellow Cali MC's Mack 10 & WC (formerly of Low Profile) & formed the trio known as Westside Connection. They released the album Bow Down, a Platinum seller that peaked at #1 on Billboard's Hot 200 Albums Chart. They made one more album in 2003 (Terrorists Threats) before disbanding. Ice cube has 9 studio albums to his credit & is one of the few rappers that has successfully made the transition from rapping to acting (click here for filmography). His Friday trilogy is among his most popular films. Rumor has it that a Final Friday movie is in the works. time will tell if this rumor comes to fruition.
