In 1983 Russell (whom is the older brother of Run-D.M.C. member Joseph Simmons) co founded the hip Hop Label Def Jam Recordings along with Rick Rubin. He also founded the Phat Farm Clothing Line. He has also produced several television hits such as Def Comedy Jam & Def Poetry Jam.
