#VitalFactz: 35th Anniversary - Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five (The Message)
On this day in 1982, pioneer group Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five released their timeless classic single The Message, which would go on to be their signature song. It peaked at #4 on Billboard's Hot Black Singles Chart & #12 on Billboards Hot Dance Club Chart. This song has become a Hip Hop Anthem. The Rhythm track has been sampled numerous times, most notably by Ice Cube on his 1993 Remix of his hit Check Yo Self & Puff Daddy's Can' Nobody Hold Me Down. Both of these tracks topped the R&B Singles Chart & The Hot Rap Singles Chart. Puff's track also topped The Billboard's Hot 100 Singles Chart. In December 2004, Rolling Stone Magazine ranked The Message at #51 on its list of 500 Greatest Songs of all time. In 2012 it was named the greatest Hip Hop song of all time.
