Happy Bornday DJ Kool Herc. Born Clive Campbell April 16, 1955. Herc, originally from Kingston, Jamaica, is credited as being the founding father of Hip Hop. He is best known for throwing basement parties at 1520 Sedgwick Avenue in the Morris Heights section of The Bronx in New York City. On July 5, 2007, 1520 Sedgwick Avenue was recognized by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation as the birthplace of hip hop.
